Mining Silos Internal and External Coating

Ar-Tech was contracted to coat two new silos. These silos were 60 feet high and approximately 24 feet in diameter and will store magnesium oxide. Ar-Tech shop facilities had more than enough room to accommodate the silos and perform the work in December in a well-lit temperature-controlled environment.

Frac Tank Coating and Foaming

The project was to coat, foam and paint six frac tanks for future deployment in the field. The tanks were new construction and dimensions were 12’ high, 12’ wide and 50’ long. All coating and foaming work was completed two at a time in Coating Shop 1 at Ar-Tech in Taber AB during a two-month period.

Flare Knockout Drum and Underground Piping

Ar-Tech was contracted to complete the exterior and interior coating work for a flare knockout drum and associated underground piping for a large Alberta producer of crude oil. The project was to be completed in two stages. The first stage was the drum and associated pipe. The second was the underground pipe. Each piece of pipe is identified for lot control traceability. All work was completed at the Ar-Tech shop and subject to 3 rd party inspection prior to delivery.

Pipe Painting

The project was to remove and repaint piping at an oil terminal. The existing pipe paint was flaking with pipes exhibiting surface corrosion in some areas. All valves and gauges were to be masked including an aluminum cable tray. Valves to be painted red, pipe in white. The terminal was to remain in operation during the project.

Proper Substrate Preparation The Importance of Testing for Soluble Salts

Ar-Tech was contacted by a local company to repaint a gravel truck dump box. While not a technically demanding project it was used to demonstrate the necessity of testing and treating for soluble salts such as chlorides prior to applying paint or coatings, even on blasted substrates.

Pipeline Weld Coating for Burial

Ar-Tech was on-site in Southern Alberta to complete the coating of welds prior to the burial of a pipeline. This job was subject to CSA Standard Z245.30-14 (Field-Applied External Coatings for Steel Pipeline Systems). All welds were blasted, coated and inspected in 2 days. The inspection activities were extensive consisting of, but not limited to, testing for soluble salts, blast profile checks and blast media conformance. Additional checks for dry film thickness (DFT), cure hardness (Shore D) and coating adhesion were all documented and part of the final QC submission package.

Ar-Tech was selected to coat the tank floors and up 4 feet on the walls with the exception of one coated tank which would be holiday inspected and repaired. Time was critical as the first tank was already in secondary containment and was going into service by the end of the week.

Fertilizer Tank Relining

Ar-Tech supplied a two-man safety /rescue team for this project due to confined space entry and Customer safety guidelines. The site was secured and prepped for cool weather. Tanks were hoarded to ensure that sufficient heat could be maintained round the clock during coating. For the curing process temperatures were increased further. Tanks were mil tested and inspected for holidays. The project took approximately 2 weeks to complete. The anticipated coating life is >20 years.
